Exchange Server 2010 RC Installation - Part 2 (Installation)

Welcome to Exchange Server 2010 . In Exchange Server 2010 RC Installation - Part 1 (Prerequisites) of this 3 part series we covered the Pre-requisites like OS, Hardware, AD Requirements, component installation.

Installation Steps:

Please Note: For successful installation of Exchange 2010, please ensure that you have completed Pre-requisites on Part-1.
  • Login to the Server, where you had completed the Pre-Requities as per Part 1 of this series.
  • Browse to DVD (if you have Exchange 2010 DVD), else browse to location where you had extracted the Binaries (Ex: C:\E2010), from Exchange2010-RC1-x64.exe, and double-click Setup.exe.
  • On Start Page, Step 1 & 2 would be grayed out, if you had completed Part 1 of this series successfuly.

  • Click Step 3: Choose Exchange language option. Choose Install only languages from the DVD for English (US) language support only or Install all languages from the language bundle for other supported languages (via Internet or from location where bundles already downloaded)

  • Click Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange. This will copy setup files locally.

  • Click Next

  • On License Agreement page, Accept License Agreement by selecting "I accept the terms in the license agreement | Click Next

    Do read the Agreement properly, you will notice RC is going to be valid for 120 days and is not for Production environment.

  • On Error Reporting page, select Yes | Click Next

    This collects basic information and sends to Microsoft.

  • On Installation Type page, Click Typical Exchange Server Installation or Custom Exchange Server Installation . To change installation path | Click Browse | Select Locaiton | | Click OK | Click Next



    Selecting Typical would install Mailbox, Hub, CAS, Mgmt Tools on the server, where as by selecting Custom, you can choose what Server Roles you want to install

  • On Exchange Organization page, Enter Organization Name | Click Next

    Please Note: that Exchange Organization name should not be more than 64 character and should only contain Alphabets, Numbers, Hyphen (-) and spaces in between.

  • On Client Settings page, Select No | Click Next

    Please Note: In case you have Outlook 2003/Entorauge, then Select Yes.

  • On Configure Client Access Server External Domain page, Check The Client Access Server Role will be Internet facing | Type Domain Name | Click Next

    Please Note: If you select this option, Virtual Directories (URL) will be configured for External access.

  • On Customer Experience page, if you want to join CEIP, select appropriate option, provide your Industry Type | Click Next

    Please Note: Minimal information is collected and sent to Microsoft for improvements in experience/issues faced

  • On Readiness Checks page, setup will initiate Pre-Req checks. erify that all have been completed successfully | Click Install

    Please Note: In case some check has failed, review cause, resolve it and retry.

  • On Completion page, Review all Options | Click Install

    Please Note: It is a good idea to also review SetupLog. I will cover that in last part of this series.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the Installation of Exchange 2010. This brings us to the end of Part-2.
