Exchange 2010 SP1 – Themes in Outlook Web App (OWA)

There are quite a few changes in User Interface (UI) of Outlook Web App in Exchange Server 2010 SP1 (beta). To start with one thing that users would love immediately is the option to change Themes.

In Exchange 2007 we had four built-in themes along with the options to customize them. Within Outlook Web Access (OWA) 2007, there were options to change themes [Options | General Settings | Appearance]. The four themes were:

  • Carbon Black
  • Seattle Sky,
  • Xbox 360,
  • Zune

What happened with Exchange 2010 RTM was that Themes were not available. Now with SP1 we have them back…..and a lot of wonderful ones to suit the need respective end user (approx 29 to choose from). All you need to do it Click on Options on the top-right hand side of the OWA page, it drops down with options to select the appropriate themes

The look and feel is pretty neat if you observe the Interface has been simplified and undergone some change. The simpler interface is pretty clean as well with newer icons.image

Here is a first hand feel of a few Themes

And many more…

The themes as expected are in Themes folder under OWA folder.

Also the option to select themes is enabled by default in OWA Mailbox Policy

At least now users who frequent the Social Networking sites will not miss the option to change the look and feel as per their mood :)
